Do you remember my blog post about the seven graphs that could change your life? One of them was this one:
When I came across Tamara Lackey, this graph immediately came to my mind. It seems she has found that beautiful spot right in the middle. She discovered her talent for photography, runs multiple studies, wrote five books, maintains several blogs and above all uses her know-how to contribute to a better world.
Together with her husband Steve, she created an organization which shines a light on children living in extreme poverty, foster care, or orphanages, called Beautiful Together
But it isn’t just about raising awareness. They actually steer projects that tangibly improve the lives of these children.
As per their website: “We believe that as overwhelming and intimidating as it can seem to try to change the world, we can do one small, real thing to help those who need help the most. And then another.”
I was touched by the way she describes the poverty she has seen. The bitter truth but also the joy within the misery. In her articles you’ll read sentences like these:
“The pain just seems to co-exist with the gratitude in a way that really stays with you”
“We saw what it meant for a community to care for each other, despite having so little themselves.”
“I heard these whoops, and then they grabbed the pup, hugged him and celebrated. Sometimes love is just the same everywhere.”

The world needs people that care and act, and Tatjana and Steve clearly do both in very tangible ways. If you are looking to donate money, to a project where you know it will be well spent than watch this video that explains one of their current projects that still needs a little more funding:
