An inspirational email from a colleague triggered me to loop her into “my journey”.
I told her about my plans to start a blog for people who want to make their world a bit better & brighter. I’d like everyone to give more compliments and the day more smiles. To truly enjoy the things they care for and pass that feeling on to others.
I created a long-term agenda something I never in my life had before:
- In 10 years, I want to be so commercially successful that I can spend 50% of my time on caritative things
- In 20 years, I want to be so commercially successful that I can spend 50% of my money on caritative things as well
Ever since I was little, I was the type that wanted to change the world . . . But I do consider myself a realistic idealist.
I wrote her about my search for heroes who I would strive to be like:
Robin Hood (My first hero – But no I do not want to live in the forest :-)
Michael Jackson (My 2nd hero – I wrote a contribution to the book “Visions of a better world” when I was 14 about his beautiful song “Men in the Mirror” – but well we all know how Michael ended…)
Mother Theresa (I love too many beautiful things to dedicate my life entire to the poor, even though, this is incredibly remarkable)
Gandhi (Wow he is the example of leaving an impact on the entire world for many generations, but that is putting the bar too high and plus I do not aspire to be assassinated…)
Nelson Mandela (Yet another incredible men – not someone easy to replicate for sure. And would he have become who he did if he hadn’t been in prison for so long…)
Martin Luther (In 1994 when I was 19 and just started my trip with Up with People I walked in the Martin Luther King parade in Colorado and his vision of hope put tears to my eyes – at the moment one of my favourite songs is One Day from Bakermat…)
I told her there are so many more remarkable people that left their “stamp” on our world. The one I have been thinking about lately is Oprah Winfrey
Oprah is the perfect example of being damn commercially successful yet in an incredibly genuine way. What a women. So dedicated and capable of people feelings emotions they did not even know they had. Some people may think she is too commercial or too “American” (Europeans can be so cocky J) but if she can fake that well she more than deserves a dozen of Oscars!
I guess she represents a new way of making an impact to this world compared to all the heroes above. Now I do not think I will be the next Oprah Winfrey but hey shoot for the stars and reach the moon :-)
That is what I call New Year’s aspirations right? Mine are just a little bigger than the past few years…haha.
For sure thank very much you Lisa for triggering me writing this email because it is all just starting to formulate in my head ….
