In the midst of all personal craziness I was invited by Gisela to join her and bake Christmas cookies with Sylvia and I just could not resist. Somehow I knew I had to make time. Sylvia is a mother of 4 children and a true role model of embracing life and all the people in it. Very socially active, creative and uplifting with an incredible “giving mentality”. Then she had a terrible car accident and now she is half paralyzed and sits in a wheelchair. She needs a lot of help and it is so hard for her to no longer have the body that allowed her to help so many others. Her spirit surely hasn’t changed but she is trapped in her physical situation. Not easy that is for sure. And it does make you ask yourself the “why her” question.
But that question is just not helpful in any way. I am very thankful she has a great husband and they have brought up their children with their shared life philosophy. No matter how hard the situation is – if you get energy from giving to others you can pull each other through anything. And that is exactly what this family does.
Today I learned (sort of) how to back Zimt-Sterne. And those are hard to bake I can tell you that. We had big time troubles making them look like real stars but they tasted delicious in the end. And I learned another lesson about what life is really all about.
“You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have”
I certainly felt my own problems where pretty insignificant.
