Born in 1975 in a rural area in the South of the Netherland I had the joy of having a “country-side” youth.
I learned that if a sheep gets 3 lambs it will only feed 2 and the other one will be left to die unless someone else takes action. Already then I understood that the world can be cruel…Yet if the mother sheep would try and feed all 3 lambs then she would risk them all to die as she only has milk enough for 2. Life is full of tough choices.
This taught me that all of us can make a difference. I fed the little lamb and it became a sheep. And that felt really good. Would it have died if I did not? Unlikely as the farmer would have fed it himself. Yet it was such a joy for me as a little girl to hold this little lamb closely in my arms and feel like making a difference. That memory is still with me today.
You do not have to be the Dalai Lama to make a difference to this world.
You make a difference already.
P.S. I tried to verify my story of sheep not being able to feed 3 lambs yet the sheep farmers seem to be hard to find on the web :-) This is just what my memory stored…
