26 days — 26 learnings: Part thirteen of looking back & looking beyond.
My word for today is:
Mateja
Last year August, I read a post on Medium from Mateja titled Self-Publishing Can Be Depressing As Hell
A raw and honest account of the launch of her first book. After reading her post, I felt compelled to buy her book The Story of the Fox and White Rabbit.
I read many of her posts since then. Her honesty, her vehemence, her vulnerability, make me admire her.
Life does not always deal us great cards; some people get dealt pretty nasty hands. I’d wish it was different. It seems the tougher life gets, the harder it gets to find the energy to reach out and the strength to speak up.
Even when in fact it’s exactly then, that we need one another more than ever.
I believe one of the most important skills one can possess is the ability to connect. To say what you want to say, nothing more, nothing less and with your words make a connection. Sounds so trivial, it is not. People are remarkably good at misunderstanding each other.
To be frank, it has taken me longer to write this post than any of the prior ones. As soon as it comes to people it becomes damn hard to find the right words. It’s often easier not to say anything at all. But what would the world be like if we all did that?
I wanted to write this post as a way of saying thank you. Thank you, Mateja, for being real. For bringing your soul onto paper. Word by word. As you share your words, you’re letting the world in.
My thirteenth learning
The world is no place to be in all by ourselves. We’re wired to connect. It is through vulnerability and openness that we become stronger.
My takeaway for 2018: May the white rabbit be with everyone
