26 days — 26 learnings: Part fourteen of looking back & looking beyond.
My word for today is:
Nowhere
Sometimes we feel lost.
I do. Not very lost.
Just a little lost.
When every thought seems to want
even more attention than the rest.
When they all speak a little too loud.
A head full of voices.
Fighting for my attention.
Taking me nowhere.
It happens now and then.
It can be quite exhausting.
It can keep one up at night.
Or eat away our attention during the day.
Nag. Nag. Nag.
Sometimes a brisk walk helps.
To leave some thoughts behind.
Let them blow away with the breeze.
Vanish into thin air.
Sometimes running helps.
The faster the heart beats;
The more the mind quiets.
Sometimes music helps.
Letting our thoughts dance away.
Tone after tone.
Beat after beat.
Sometimes writing helps.
Bringing thoughts to paper.
Giving them room and space.
Blue ink on white paper.
Notebook after notebook.
And then there are times when
all it takes
is one deep breath.
One large sip of fresh air.
Filling our lungs.
It’s like pressing the space key
In the middle of nowhere.
And being back.
Centered.
Right now. Right here.
As if you never left.
My fourteenth learning:
Knowing, how to create space, in a crowdy and overstimulating world, is a real blessing.
My takeaway for 2018: Create silence between the notes. Allow thoughts to rise and pass. To become loud, now and again, but also ultraquiet.
