26 days — 26 learnings: Part fifteen of looking back & looking beyond.
My word for today is:
Oneness
Last year July, on the 18th of the month to be exact, I woke up at 5 am. There might have been a bird on the roof of our trailer. I might just as well have had a dream. Either way, I was about to turn around and get some more sleep.
Yet, a little voice in my head said; “Don’t go back to sleep. The sun wants to see you rise. Come on, put on your boots and go say hello.”
I don’t know why I didn’t hesitate. I’m not much of an early bird. Like most people, I’ve seen way more sunsets than sunrises.
That day though, I did as told. I silently got up, grabbed a few clothes as well as my camera gear and cautious not to wake anyone up, I tiptoed out the door.
I hadn’t looked at the weather forecast. I wasn’t planning on going anywhere. The air was crisp. It took a few deep breaths and swung myself on my bike. Ten minutes later, I stood on the beach.
There wasn’t a soul in sight. It was just me and the birds. They played with the waves. Or did the waves play with them?
Slowly the sun rose, and I just stood there. Wishing time would halt. Everything seemed so large. So wide. So wide open. So all-encompassing.
I felt tiny and at the same time, magnified. Once more, Rumi his words flashed through my mind: “You are not a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean in a drop.”
My fifteenth learning:
Nature is one of our most magnificent teachers
My takeaway for 2018: Sleeping is gold, knowing when to get up is priceless.
