26 days — 26 learnings: Part twenty-four of looking back & looking beyond.
My word or perhaps more my letter for today is:
X
I’m one of those people who do lists. Lot’s of lists.
Grocery shopping lists, Books to read lists, Habit check-off lists, Daily to-do lists, Weekly to-do list, Top 3 to-do lists, bucket list, and finally at the end of last year, I started a “not to do” list.
Perhaps the last one is the most important one.
It’s the one for which I use the X
The habits get little stars. So do the top 3 to-dos: ☆
For the rest I use flags. Done. Check-off √
But this last lists gets THE X
There is sort off a double meaning to that.
Crossing things off is only half of it.
It feels good to be clear on things I’m not going to proceed with.
That’s where the second meaning of the X comes in.
It’s after all the Roman number 10
It gives ten times more space, energy, freedom, clarity, and all that good stuff to know where you are NOT heading.
I’m never short of ideas. I needed this list.
That’s what I learned last year:
Keeping track of the things you won’t do, has more vigor than checking off the things you’re doing.
My takeaway for 2018: Expand further on this list. Divide it into Not now and (Ideally) Never again.
P.S. Never isn’t really a word in my dictionary, still, for certain things, it’s surely a good aim.
