26 days — 26 learnings: Part eight of looking back & looking beyond.
My word for today is:
Habitude
James Clear his legendary newsletters, Michelle Mc Quad her global strength habit challenge, the TED talk from BJ Fogg Forget big change start with one tiny habit; they all talk about the importance of habits.
To start a new habit, it’s good to identify a trigger:
I will do X when Z happens.
Well, a gift I gave myself in 2017 was a Fitbit activity tracker. It has become a true companion. It triggers me to walk. Every day, when my 12.000 step firework moment comes, it makes me joyous like a little kid.
It’s interesting how new habits, create other new habits. Along, with walking, way more steps than ever before, I started to listen to audiobooks. Books are one of the big loves of my life. Not the ideal hobby for someone who sits too much already. Now I walk, and I listen. It’s harder; my brain tends to go off on its own tangent faster than when I read. Makes me practice my listening skills! I get better, step by step.
It’s incredible what a difference this little device has made in my life. Which gets reflected in the word habitude; when a habit becomes an attitude.
My eight learning:
All it takes is one small change.
My take away for 2018: Keep going!
